Climate change is the greatest challenge of our generation

Our actions today determine how severe the consequences of climate change will be.

We connect your contribution to transparent, scientifically founded projects that permanently remove CO₂ from the air. In this way, we enable us to restore the emissions that we have built up as a society, step by step.

Remove CO₂ from the air and store it back in the ground for centuries.

The CO₂ that is now threatening to warm our planet rapidly originally comes from the ground.
It was stored there for hundreds of millions of years as fossil fuels.
By burning these fuels, we are now releasing this CO₂ into the atmosphere at a rapid pace.

We need to store this CO₂ back in a stable form in the ground.
This requires an approach that is reliable and as cost-effective as possible.

CO₂ can be removed in several ways

The CO₂llective is currently starting with biomass conversion, as this is now reliable and cost-effective.

Biomass Conversion

Biomass conversion harnesses the power of nature to remove CO₂ from the atmosphere.

Through the conversion to biochar, a stable and long-lasting form of carbon fixation is created, along with a range of valuable co-benefits.

Together we take responsibility

The majority of the Netherlands is concerned about climate change. The current pace of politics and industry is not fast enough.

Therefore, it is up to us to take an extra step, and we do this together. With the CO₂llective, we combine our strengths and make the necessary difference with CO₂ removal.

Doesn't this just maintain the CO₂ emissions?

No, European CO₂ emissions are significantly reduced by legislation - the EU Emission Trading System. However, in addition to this CO₂ reduction, we also need to start removing excess CO₂ from the atmosphere. It helps if everyone contributes!

Is this really going to make a difference?

Yes. CO₂ removal through the CO₂llective makes a difference, not only through direct CO₂ removal but also through important additional effects and a strong signaling function. The additional effects are that joint participation creates demand certainty, allowing a scalable market for CO₂ removal to grow, and enabling innovative parties to scale up more quickly. The signaling function is that it demonstrates that we want to take responsibility for our emissions and are willing to contribute to a healthy and safe climate. This sends a clear signal to companies and policymakers that there is support for structural solutions.

Where is CO₂ being removed?

Depending on the technique, CO₂ is removed in the Netherlands or elsewhere, but always by Dutch companies. Since CO₂ emissions are a global problem, the solution is also global.

Where is CO₂ being removed?

CO₂ can be removed from anywhere in the world; for the atmosphere, the location makes no difference, as it mixes globally. Therefore, we prefer to remove CO₂ in places where it provides additional benefits and keeps costs as low as possible. At the same time, we adhere to strict quality and control standards. For that reason, we currently only work with Dutch companies.

How much CO₂ do I emit?

An average Dutch person emits about 8,000 kg (= 8 tons) of CO₂. However, because this is an average, your footprint could be significantly larger or smaller. A fair footprint (where everyone would live within the limits of the Earth) is approximately 2,000 kg of CO₂.
