The amount of CO₂ you emit largely depends on your (sustainable) behaviour. It's no rocket science that a frequent flyer emits much more than someone who goes on holiday by bike, but did you know that your diet also has a significant impact? On average, a household in the Netherlands (2.1 persons) emits 17,000 kg of CO₂. This is roughly 8,000 kilos per person. For the average Dutch person, this is broken down as follows:
Emissions in figures
The emissions of an "average" Dutch person can be seen next to this. But you are certainly not average. Where do you think your main emissions are? Take the test at MilieuCentraal.
What should our footprint be?
Reduce the global average CO₂ footprint to less than 2 tons per person per year by 2050 to have a good chance of keeping global warming below 2 °C. Will you join us?
Are you going on a trip soon?
Holiday… wonderful! Especially when we seek out the sun. We often take a plane for that, but unfortunately flying contributes significantly to CO₂ emissions. We ultimately need to remove this emission from the atmosphere. In our calculator, you can easily calculate how much CO₂ your flight emits for five different distances and what it would cost to offset it.

What if CO₂
would be visible?
CO₂ is invisible and odourless, which means you cannot see the impact of your choice.
But what if CO₂ was visible? Would you then choose a cleaner option more quickly? And if that is not possible, would you then clean up CO₂?
